A very beautiful and quite old example of a Mathura cotton embroidered folding bag, circa early 20th century, Banjara community, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. The work on this bag is quite fine. The embroiderer employed a number of techniques such as running stitch, brick stitch, buttonhole filling stitch and cross stitch. The colors are subdued and have mellowed with age. The handle is extremely soft, and is a pleasure to touch. Condition is quite good for its age, but there are areas of wear and fraying at the edges due to age and use. Overall, a very presentable and collectable piece which is older than most. The dimensions are 27.5" x 19" opened. Price on Request
