SOLD* Unusually large embroidered panel, circa 1st Qt. 20th century, Banjara community, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. This handsome example was most likely a large storage bag which has been opened. It measure 47" x 24". It is certainly one of the largest textiles from this group that I have seen. The work is stunning in its simplicity, though an enormous effort was put into its creation. The work is fine and precise. The design consists of eight quadrangles, each containing vertical stripes which then contain chervrons. The colors are soft and harmonious with several shades of green, yellow, ivory, blue and rust. There is wear to areas, and a few patched holes, and pucker at one side of the center. It's seen use, and has a real tribal presence. SOLD
