SOLD This is a wonderful embroidered bag known as 'jholno', circa early 20th century, Banjara community, probably Madhya Pradesh, Central India. This finely embroidered example is sometimes referred to as a coconut bag. It is worked in fine brick stitch, cross stitch and applique. It has embroidery in both cotton and wool, a sign of good age. The colors are all from natural dyes sources with a beautiful madder red, indigo medium and light blue, ivory and golden yellow. It has been decorated with cowrie shells and cotton tassels. The condition is very nice for its age, with slight areas of wear and corrosion. The hanging loops are still intact. It measures approx: 12" x 12" when laid flat. A very collectable example in fine condition. SOLD
