SOLD A very beautiful embroidered 3 piece set known as a 'gala' or 'gala pulia', circa 1940's or before, Banjara community, Karnataka, South India. These items were important in the everyday life of a Banjara woman whos responsibilty it was to carry water each day from the well. This is a fabulous example with stunningly vivid colors, and extra fine cotton embroidery. This ensemble still has the 'pulia' or neck cover, the 'gala' or ring, and the 'gaadi' or pad placed on the head under the ring. This example has been beautifully decorated with cowrie shells. the dimensions are 13" x 7" w/o cowries. The ring is 5"diam. and the pad 5" x 5". SOLD
