This is a very old 'pulia' or neck cover used by a woman when carrying water from the well. This piece was made around 1920's to 30's, by the Banjara semi nomadic group from the region of Karnataka, South India. It has been beautifully embroidered in wool and cotton on a handspun cotton ground. The center strip which has been left unembroidered displays a beautiful block printed cotton. The designs are distinctly Banjara, and can be seen in many of the embroidered 'pulia' from Karnataka. The color and rich, and the work is quite fine. The dimensions are 10" x 13". Price on Request
