This is a very old example of a ceremonial cloth or 'chakla', used in rituals by the Banjara nomads of Madhya Pradesh, India. It dates to the early 20th century, if not before. It is comprised of a number of retangular pieces of cotton, then embroidered, appliqued and adorned with mica mirrors. All natural dyes were used for its creation. Small leaded tassels are attached to each corner. The condition is good, however the center square has been reinforced with a piece of fabric on the back to give it added strength. It is a nice, old collectable example. Dhavalo of this age and quality are now difficult to find. The dimensions are 15" x 15". Price on Request
