This is a rare and beautiful appliqued 'gala' or neck covering, used when hauling water from the well. Nomadic Banjara group, circa 1900 or before, Madhya Pradesh, Central India. This is a very old example in nice condition for its age. It most likely is missing cowrie shells from around the exterior. Produced with all all natural dyes and handspun cotton. 'Gala' of this age using applique technique have now become quite rare and sought after by collectors. This is a particularly beautiful example. The dimensions are 16" x 9 1/2"wd. Price on Request
