Antiquities | Ancient Gandhara Buddha or Bodhisattva

A wonderful example from the Gandhara period, 2nd to 3rd century, Afghanistan. Alexander and his armies brought Greek artisians with them as they conquered region after region, leaving a lasting influence which remained centuries after he was gone. It can be seen not only in the art of the region, but in the color of the eyes, in the hair color, and in the complextion of his armies ancestors which inhabit Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of Persia. The Greek influence can certainly be seen in the wonderful sculpture. Price on Request
